Pieter van der Hoeven and Bram Fokke founded Clocktimizer together in 2014. Since then we’ve grown our team to include programmers, designers and a whole host of other important jobs. We have worked hard to create a dynamic, creative group of people. So we want to make sure you know who they are too. This series of blogs will cover the amazing people who work here. We’ll be releasing new blogs as the team grows so keep an eye out and find more about the people behind Clocktimizer.
Susan Brommer – Software developer
Susan is our resident robot whisperer and all around AI genius. She began studying all things machine for her bachelor’s degree in cognitive artificial intelligence. In fact, her fields of study are considerably broader than programming alone. As part of her bachelor’s she also got stuck into psychology, linguistics, philosophy and game theory. Susan is currently working towards her master’s in computing science, focusing on data science and machine learning. This smorgasbord of AI brilliance has proved very useful in her role as developer at Clocktimizer. Susan is working on ways to improve how machine learning classifies text. Most interestingly, she’s looking at the semantics of classification. Namely, whether a piece of text is talking about a task or a company or a person, and how machines can recognise those differences.
Not one to sit still, Susan has also started her own business (and simultaneously made everyone else in the office feel like a total underachiever!) EduCode automatically assess student’s programming code to provide fast and accurate feedback. It also takes the pressure off busy teachers. Susan has two adorable (and highly intelligent) pet rats which have an uncanny ability to know when to get themselves in trouble. She’s also queen of brain teasers. If she was a mythical creature, we reckon she’d be a Sphinx.
